Sealing a Heritage Building in Vancouver
History meets Aerobarrier
Vancouver’s heritage buildings were certainly not built with airtightness in mind.
We had the opportunity to seal six vacant units in this 107 year old building; the units started with an average initial airtightness of 15ACH and needless to say, were not energy efficient.
Each room were no larger than 400 sqft while the hallways were narrow. Our team got creative with the equipment placement. It was a bit tight but we figured it out.
After an application of AeroBarrier to each unit, they ended with a 3.5ACH or less, representing 77% reduction in air leakage, bringing them in compliance with current standards.
Unit 1: 465sqft . – Starting: 13.82ACH – Final score: 3.35 ACH
– 75.8% Reduction in Envelope Leakage
Unit 2: 270sqft . – Starting: 16.12ACH – Final score: 3.29 ACH
– 79.6% Reduction in Envelope Leakage
Unit 3: 290sqft . – Starting: 14.03ACH – Final score: 2.84 ACH
– 79.8% Reduction in Envelope Leakage
Reduced heat loss + eliminate smell transfer between units + lower operating costs = COMFORT.
How leaky is your building? As a building owner, is COMFORT something you want to achieve?
